3 months ago today, Samsung announced its plans to manufacture mass quantities of 3D LED screens in an attempt to swallow up the early surge of 3D LED TV buyers and lower the cost of each individual screen. Now, as the 3D boom begins to take shape, high forecasts of Corning glass screens could mean high sales of Samsung LED TVs, like the new Samsung 9000 series. In fact, even more than forecasted.
Because Samsung had promising outlooks for 3D LED TVs and planned accordingly, the company is now in a position to offer the most innovative LED TVs on the market. For example, the ultra slim 9000 series is just 7.98 mm thick and offers a unique stainless steel bezel and single touch access to the Internet. 7.98 mm is the slimmest TV yet.
Samsung is also reportedly looking into TVs that run off of the Google Android platform. That means widgets, Internet, and streaming video all enabled into the hardware of the Samsung LED TV. Sony is already believed to be teaming up with Intel and Google to make Google TV a reality on Sony LCD LED TVs.
As the market becomes more and more saturated, manufacturers like Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic are all hoping innovations will pay off. From recent reports from Corning Inc., it seems that is exactly what is happening.
Corning Inc, who has a joint venture with Samsung, predicts a 27% increase in glass growth for the LCD screen market and anticipates 2010 LCD TV sales to go up from 171 million to 177 million.
The increased forecast, in part, seems to be a reflection of Samsung's goal to quadruple its sales of LCD TVs in 2010.
CFO Jim Flaws of Tech Trader Daily says "[Corning Inc] sees 'very strong' retail demand for both LCD televisions and PC displays, which in turn has driven Corning’s customers 'to run strong.'"
In other words, the recent push for LCD TVs has got Samsung ordering more screens to keep up with the demand, and the new screens are going onto continually adapted TVs that keeps the forecasted dollars growing.
Why Tainted Green? Literally, green is only a color. But in typical human fashion we've pumped a cacophony of additional meanings and symbolism into the word. Green has become a marketing tool used by companies with impunity to wrap their products in a balmy haze of "ethical" and "conscientious" approval.
That's where Tainted Green steps in. We are seekers of truth, and we support the fundamental drivers behind the green movement. Ideas like permaculture, renewable energy, and recycling make sense, but companies that express support for green without a wholesome process behind it have tainted the meaning of green. And so, our focus is to create green content that pushes the ideology forward while pointing out which parts look like this year's marketing baggage. Welcome to Tainted Green, where we focus on unearthing the truth about green.
