As the economic downturn continues to limit spending, people are looking for solutions that bring a return on their investments. It is no longer logical to purchase with short term payouts in mind. Instead, people want long term benefits with the few dollars they are able to spend. The new green technological software solutions have the potential to do just that.
Software has transformed the way that society does business, and for that matter life. Each advancement has enabled companies and individuals to allocate resources to new areas of business, making growth a reality.
And now, with green becoming such an emphasized aspect of life, people are pouring resources and time into determining the best green solutions without having the automated help. Those days, however, may be over.
Technology will now allow a new way to do green business. With the advent of Green IT 2.0 and green technology, companies will now be able to track water, waste, and energy consumption without the hassle of a spreadsheet or Word document. The goal is to maximize efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
Preston Gralla of GreenBiz.com believes Green IT 2.0 will be able to "examine business processes and operations at every level of a company, and suggest ways to re-tool for energy saving and reducing carbon emissions."
For companies like Hara, who have developed software, it is about developing new innovative techniques to manage the natural resources that have become a precious entity in the past few decades.
By tracking consumption with the software, companies will be able to determine a plan of action to reduce emissions and look at a list of recommendations and scenarios that the software suggests. Essentially, the software enables companies and organizations to take steps to cut costs and emissions that won’t require a green consultant.
Hara’s CEO likens it to a fitness trainer that calculates someone’s body fat index—only with his model it calculates waste and cents instead of body fat and pounds. He says, “It measures the fossil fuels, water and waste at a company and calculates how to save money.”
The technology works inversely of the standard green innovation: instead of creating new forms of energy, the software offers techniques to manage the energy that currently exists. It reverses a trend of green technological developments released in the last few years.
Obviously, as with any software, a variety of competitors exist. According to a report done by Reuters, software developers such as Carbonetworks, SAP, Enviance, ZeroFootprint, and Verisae all have their own form of software solution. It is the organization or company’s responsibility to determine the best fit for their budget.
Either way, it is a large improvement from the quick, standard green fixes that the standard consultant tends to offer.
Why Tainted Green? Literally, green is only a color. But in typical human fashion we've pumped a cacophony of additional meanings and symbolism into the word. Green has become a marketing tool used by companies with impunity to wrap their products in a balmy haze of "ethical" and "conscientious" approval.
That's where Tainted Green steps in. We are seekers of truth, and we support the fundamental drivers behind the green movement. Ideas like permaculture, renewable energy, and recycling make sense, but companies that express support for green without a wholesome process behind it have tainted the meaning of green. And so, our focus is to create green content that pushes the ideology forward while pointing out which parts look like this year's marketing baggage. Welcome to Tainted Green, where we focus on unearthing the truth about green.
