Blogger proves Jamie Oliver isn’t alone in the Food Revolution

Blogger proves Jamie Oliver isn’t alone in the Food RevolutionJust a few months ago, chef Jamie Oliver set out to change the eating habits of the residents of Huntington, West Virginia. He had cameras document the experience for a show on ABC called “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.” However, one blogger has shown that Oliver isn’t alone in his passion to change the way students eat.

Known only as Mrs. Q, she is the anonymous blogger behind “Fed Up With Lunch: The School Lunch Project.” As a new mom, she got angry with the quality of food being fed to children. The idea for the blog borrowed a little from the “Julie & Julia” project and a some tips from spy movies. Mrs. Q would act as a teacher for most of her day but turned into a blogger for her twenty minute lunch break. Her daily goal is to eat and document the very same food being served to her students.

Mrs. Q explained her passion for the project simply, “I think every child no matter how much money their family has deserves to eat quality food at school.”

Under a cloak of secrecy, she snaps a photo of the meal on her cell phone and then uploads it along with a post to the blog. Entries on “Fed Up With Lunch” range from a cheese sandwich that looked like it was run over by a Segway to a conversation on how high fructose corn syrup impacts kids’ diets and behavior.

The blog just doesn’t take aim at the quality of food being served to kids but also its impact on the planet. Processed foods like chicken nuggets often come with packaging that doesn’t always hit the recycling bin, or food is served on trays that are destined for the garbage can. Mrs. Q said, “By going to a paper trays and plastic coverings, we are creating tons of unnecessary waste for sure.” She also advocates the return to dishwashers and real utensils in the era of the spork to curb waste and cut garbage costs.

“Fed Up With Lunch” has attracted a lot of attention from readers, bloggers, and Jamie Oliver himself. Mrs. Q may not have a TV show, a line of cookware, or be nicknamed the “Naked Chef” but she has one thing in common with chef Oliver. They just want an honest discussion about what we are feeding our children.

I think there should be more people like this Jamie Oliver.. I agree with him and his ideas .. 100% food at school should be all natural, not processed food and parents should do the same at home...

his effort with ours can make a big difference and we could have healthy childs and healthy adults and all that together is healthy life...

I think what Jamie is doing is spectacular! When he did the experiment on the chicken nuggets and what they are really made of I was so embarrassed because I buy Tyson nuggets all the time and to know I'm feeding my kids chicken carnage is horrible. I make healthy food just not enough...so I am so excited to watch this show this is real reality tv....

Chicken nuggets are not always bad. They do have a high fat and salt content, like many microwavable items in the freezer section. The claims Jamie Oliver made about how chicken nuggets are made are just flat out wrong. The nuggets are made from breast meat with the skin still attached. Some also have thigh meat, again with the skin still attached. The chicken nuggets are still a good option in lieu of fast food, but they are not intended to be a well-rounded meal replacement.

I love the fact that Jamie Oliver is bringing about the thing we all know but don't want to acknowledge.  The food that is being served to our children is absolutely dispicable.  Inmates eats better than our children, and we pay for these inmates and continue to struggle for our children's education and well being.  Budget cuts are continuing in our nation, within our schools but not in our prision system.  What is wrong with this picutre.

Nutrition is so important to our children's development.  However, with the food that is being served is schoold this isn't nutrition, this is processed food  and leads to the conditions that we see today.  I am all for education in our schools with nutrition.  Thanks Jamie.  Come to Littleton Colorado and I will work with you.

I was never a fan of those British TV shows like Nanny or those Cooks. I was skeptical about watching the show last night about Huntington, WV because I never liked those cooking shows. I spent two hours and was highly impressed with Oliver's push for nutritious food in school cafeteria. Being from Hawaii and Asia, I grew up mostly with fruits, vegetables, greens, and rice. When I travel to the mainland, especially in Southern and Midwestern states, I face heck of a time for breakfast. For someone who is a vegetarian (no eggs and allergic to milk), it is tough to travel on business. I would rather be happy if those restaurants can serve me a bowl of boiled oat meal - which is not often available. If you do, it has those horrible things mixed into it to provide favor and sweetness.

I see the corporations need to take responsibility in this issue and the USDA and FDA need to come forward clean. USDA tries to protect the business interest and FDA does not have the spine to go after the bad boys whose foods are making these kids obese. Did you see those chiken nuggests Jimmy made out of junks of a whole chicken? This is what our kids are eating in schools - ground bone, liver, fats, scrap meat, and skin. Yuk!! Our First Lady seems to have taken a genuine step in this effort. I hope it pays off soon. Let more doctors, church eldeers and priests, talk show hosts, and people like Jimmy show what we are eating daily and how these things affecting our health.

Jamie is by far the BEST thing to happen to this nation. Until I watched the first two episodes of Food Revolution, I had no idea just how bad the food served in schools was, along with foods we all choose to eat daily. It takes a strong and determined person to take the push Jamie has received and use that to move forward. The best part about Jamie is that his Revolution is not about fighting obesity - there are people in this world who can eat what they want and not gain a pound and these people have the same concerns. It is about making a decision to eat healthy to fully live our lives, and I fully support Jamie!

Thanks, Jamie, for caring!

We are supporting sick care.  Jamie is on track and should extend this program.  I have studied health, fitness and youth and his food revolution should be expaned to reach more people.

Obisity is a dihonor for America. Two- Thirds are obese.

Would like to discuss how we could greatly enhance his wonderful revolution.  I have access to hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies that want to participate in this health revoluton.

I have the credentialsand background and would like to talk to him regarding this expansion on T.V. and web site. We have access to major sponsors for this exciting revolution.

Jamie, my feeling have been hurt, Mrs.Q only cares about what childern are being served at school lunches.  My other comment on jamies's other website, was trying to tell people what great work Jamie is doing, but i also wanted a share a little information about Jamie, because he even said people didnt know what he has been doing for the last 10 yrs.....YES, I care very much what the school are feeding the childern, the United Stated Food Pyrimad is going ot have to change with the new programs of foods we need to give our childern in school......they should have protein/fiber in everymeal, protein is what gives your body energy, fiber is needed to process food through the body, and kids do need alittle fat in diet, it is good for their nerve endings so they work correctly........Starting at school is good, but you need to start at home with toddlers.........I do belive in parent classes they have now, and they should talk about nutrition in there classes along with bullying...Parents need to educate themselves and teach childern what to look for in bad cafteria food if they are really concerned.....and funding for all without question should come from USDA, everything else in our country is going up on price......so it will cost alittle more too feed out kids ...... but inthe long run it will be worth it in many ways...and that is what our government wants..........Thanks for listening...I do too want to help you Jamie change what the kids are eating in school/how about after school snack.........Patricia Sheridan

One thing that would contribute to this movement is to really reward people for eating good food. I'm not sure how it could be done in the current system, but I would think that would be a way to create health insurance savings based on buying consistently good food. Lots of logistical questions there, I realize. The way to really get Americans to change things up and get themselves moving is to hit them in the wallet. It's the only language we seem to understand.

We all have to learn from Jamie, nobody asked him to be socially responsible but his passion for cooking good food and to inculcate good eating habits in children made him undertake the task he is involved in at present. These very children are going to carry Jamie's message for all generations to come. The corporate world has also bombarded the TV channels with their ads and the children wants to have only those foods so these commercial people also have to curb their ads but this is a big headache which will take a long to heal so now it's people like Jamie, the parents and social agents like schools which can show the kids what good health is.
