CareerBuilder solves chaos of finding a green job, finally

CareerBuilder solves chaos of finding a green job, finallyWith the popularity of green job searches surging, CareerBuilder is finally making a move to offer a resource to hook up employers with prospective employees. The site, which was released yesterday, hopes to alleviate the pain of using advanced searches and artful keywords to find the perfect green job. But why so late?

Obama, since taking his seat as president, has placed a huge emphasis on creating jobs that help solve the energy crisis and better the environment. In fact, according to the CareerBuilder press release, $98 billion of the economic stimulus plan has already gone or will go towards "energy and environmental projects."

The movement towards green jobs, however, has been developing momentum for quite some time. Over the last decade, the growth of green jobs has soared to an impressive 9.1 percent, compared to the 3.7 percent of the overall job market.

The popularity of the search for jobs in this developing market can even be seen on Google. According to its popular Adwords tool, approximately 750,000 people searched for either "green jobs" or "environmental jobs" in the month of July alone.

Considering the strong emphasis the Obama administration has put on green jobs and the statistics to back its legitimacy, it is hard to believe it has taken CareerBuilder this long to specialize in a niche so big for so long.

CareerBuilder is known as the largest online career site in the US. Over 23 million visitors have made their way to the site in search of the more than one million jobs posted by companies worldwide. The database alone of more than 31 million resumes makes the company an information powerhouse.

As such a large, powerful company that possesses so much information about so many different companies and people, why are they only now implementing this useful tool? At this point, it just appears to be lack of thoughtful preparation.

Thankfully for CareerBuilder, much of the stimulus package money is still yet to be spent and better yet, the green movement is only just beginning to get its wheels spinning. The site, www.goinggreenjobs.com, still possesses an abundance of opportunity for people still looking for environmental job opportunities.

Although CareerBuilder is clearly just reacting to the movement instead of proactively trying to be apart of it, the site they built out is definitely worth the wait. It offers the targeting piece that was missing from the main CareerBuilder.com page and offers the tools and information needed to land the perfect green job.

Sometimes good things just come late.
